GET YOUR YO-YOS OUT!: Prairie Psycho Live at Scenefest 2 (2004)
Liner notes by Scott Stanfield (Composed April 2020)
Well, boys and girls, once upon a time in Lincoln there was a marvelous website, Star City Scene, curated by Tery Daly and Amy Leavitt, that brought you all you needed to know about Lincoln bands doing original material.
In 2003, Tery and Amy started holding multi-venue, multi-night showcase event—Scenefest. We didn’t get an offer to play for the first one, but we did for the second, and that is how this recording got made. Tery and Amy were planning to put out a Scenefest compilation CD, with one live performance from each band, so all the sets were recorded in a relatively mindful way.
I’m very grateful to have the recording, which is quite good once the mix gets dialed in (track one has a bit too much bass). We played well and got a great response—this was the first night A Prairie Psycho Companion was available to the public, and we sold every copy we brought with us, about two dozen.
The recording is also somewhat bittersweet for me, though, since this was our next-to-last show with John Talbird. He got a teaching job in Brooklyn, where he moved to about a month after this show (and where he still lives and teaches). Once again, we needed to find a drummer.
